Retroreflective Sheeting Manufacturers – Reflective Sheeting Suppliers

Reflective sheeting is one of the reflective products of KWVINYL Reflective Sheeting Manufacturing Company, if you are looking for reflective vinyl, please contact us for more information and a quote.

Retroreflective Sheeting Type

Reflective sheeting also calls reflective vinyl, is made by PVC / PC/ Acrylic / PET or mixed face film, our reflective material customers can choose the suitable reflective vinyl according to their product. Reflective sheeting is classified by grade, which can be divided into 5 types: Diamond Grade (DG), High Intensity Prismatic Grade (HIP), Engineer Grade Prismatic Grade (EGP), High Intensity Grade, and Engineer Grade (EG).

1. Diamond Grade Reflective Sheeting

Diamond Grade Reflective Sheeting is a fully cubic prismatic reflective sheeting that returns nearly 60% of the available light to the driver of the vehicle, approximately twice as much as HIP reflective vinyl.

Available stock colors include white, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, and brown. Another color, fluorescent yellow-green, is also available and is used primarily in school zones, and has superior luminescence both during the daytime and night.

2. High Intensity Prismatic Reflective Sheeting

High Intensity Prismatic (HIP) Sheeting complies with D4956-09 Type III and Type IV and ASTM 4956-07 Type X standards for ASTM requirements. This is a non-metalized, micro-prismatic reflective vinyl that is primarily used for reflective traffic and road signs, barricades or other road construction zone equipment, and traffic signs such as cones or barrels.

HIP reflective sheeting is used for more permanent traffic signs, work zone equipment, etc., and is available in white, yellow, red, orange, blue, green, and brown.

3. Engineer Grade Prismatic Reflective Sheeting

Engineer Grade Prismatic Reflective Sheeting is a non-metalized micro prismatic lens retroreflective sheeting designed for the production of reflective commercial signs and non-critical traffic control signs that are exposed vertically in service. Engineer Grade Prismatic Sheeting can easily be identified by the visible integral “EGP” marking. When applied to properly prepared sign substrates, EGP sheeting provides long-term reflectivity and durability. EGP Vinyl exceeds engineer-grade reflectivity; robust design facilitates manual application to large substrates; reliable performance of polycarbonate standing angles; meets and exceeds ASTM D4956 Class I specifications; better daytime and nighttime brightness compared to engineer-grade glass bead optics.

4. High Intensity Reflective Sheeting

High Intensity Grade Reflective Film, made by glass bead and PET, designed for the production of long-term traffic control, guidance, warning, and information signs. Meets ASTM D 4956 specifications for Type III reflective sheeting.

5. Engineer Grade Reflective Sheeting

EG Reflective Sheeting typically meets ASTM D4956 Type 1 standards and is an enclosed film or lens using glass beads or prismatic optical technology. This material is specified for use on non-critical street and road signs, such as stop signs or road markings. It has a smaller reflectivity than the other types mentioned in the original question. The standard colors are white, yellow, red, blue, green, and brown.

Photoluminescent Vinyl

Photoluminescent Vinyl is also named glow in the dark sheet, luminescent film, or self-luminous vinyl, which is made of photoluminescent powder and PVC or PET layers. This luminescent film absorbs visible light, can be charged by any source of lights as long as strong than 25LX light intensity, such as a standard lamp, and this luminescent film can glow high-intensity initial lighting in the 1 hours, then with the time goes by, this luminescent film slowly decreases lighting intensity after 2-10 hours. Of course, the specific high-intensity glowing time of photoluminescent film depends on different levels of the luminescent film. So this luminescent vinyl film is a self-power sign because the film requires no extra illumination to glow. In the daytime, the photoluminescent film shows greenish color, and it glows bright green in the dark.

Retroreflective Tape Type – Reflective Tape Manufacturer

Retroreflective tape varies in flexibility, durability, vividness, color, and brightness. These are all factors to consider when choosing the type of tape to be used for your application.

1. Flexible Engineer Grade (Type 1) – Our most popular and affordable reflective tape. Utilizing high refractive index glass beads evenly distributed on a flexible film to produce retro-reflectivity, Type 1 films have no patterns, just smooth solid colors, making Engineer Grade popular for vehicle graphics and signage, as well as thousands of other applications.

We carry a special “flexible” engineer grade that uses a polyester topcoat that makes it more flexible, compliant, and stretchable than the “standard” engineer grade. This quality makes it ideal for graphic applications that require the film to be formed on uneven surfaces or wound very tightly in diameter. For example, firefighters like Flex EG films and use them to wrap tools for easy identification.

Engineer-grade films are reflective at about 75-85 candela and reflect light at a greater angle than prismatic strips. (Floodlight vs. Spotlight) Because of this extensive light scattering, the engineer returns about 30% of the light to the light source and disperses the rest around the target. This causes the film to glow faster than prismatic tape and allows for greater angular visibility. The downside is that because the light is scattered, it darkens at a distance. For this reason, engineer grade tape is recommended for closed applications where the viewer is close to 300 feet from the tape.

  • Affordable and durable, with a 7-year outdoor rating. Our most popular movie.
  • Smooth, bright colors with no patterns. Single-layer film. Will not layer.
  • Very flexible due to the special finish. Fits well. Stretchable.
  • Easily cut letters, numbers, logos, and shapes from CAD or a plotter.
  • Choose from eight colors – white, red, yellow, blue, green, orange, gold, and black (black for shiny gold).
  • Typically used for bollards, gates, buildings, lift gates, commercial signs, car and boat graphics, etc.
  • Available in 1″, 2″, 3″, 4″, 6″, 8″, 12″ and 24″ widths.
  • Brightness (white) 75-85 candela high visibility at short distances.

2. Super Engineer Grade (SEG) Type 2 Reflective Tape is a thin, soft film similar to Engineer Grade, but with brighter, higher refractive index glass beads, you get the same smooth, if not patternless, color. It looks and feels like Engineer’s Grade, but twice as bright. The SEG is less flexible than the Flex Engineer grade but can meet certain requirements. It is used for sign paper but can be used for many other applications. It can be used if you have a flatter surface and want the brighter tape. If you need excellent consistency, choose the Flex Engineer level.

Returns lighter back to the light source than engineer-grade tape. About 45% of the captured light is returned to the light source and the rest is returned around the light source.

  • A little more expensive than the Engineer grade, but brighter and similar in feel and function.
  • Great for traffic control, bollards, boats, vehicles, bicycles, and motorcycles.
  • Ideal for all close applications (up to 500 feet) that require brighter tape.
  • Extremely durable, with an all-weather outdoor protection rating of 10 years.
  • Widths: 1, 2, and 4 inches. Six colors – red, white, blue, green, yellow, orange.
  • Moderately conformable.

3. High Intensity Grade Type 3 (Standard Version) Reflective Tape also uses high refractive index glass beads but in a different configuration. In this type of tape, the ultra-high refractive index beads condense into a honeycomb shape, making the tape more than three times brighter and more efficient, so more light is returned to the light source than in Engineer or Super Engineer grade tapes. Available in six colors and widely used for traffic control, bollards, boats, ships, cars, and motorcycles. Extremely durable, all-weather outdoor protection rating of 10 years.

  • Colors – White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue.
  • Available widths – 1″, 2″, 4″, 6″, 8″.

4. Flexible High Intensity Grade Type 3 (flexible version) reflective tape is just like standard high-strength glass bead tape but with a flexible surface coating. This allows the tape to stretch and spring back. Used for road barrels and traffic cones, but is also ideal for other similar applications that require extreme flexibility. Extremely durable, with an all-weather outdoor rating of 10 years. Like the flexible engineering grade, Flex High Strength will fit around very small diameters without lifting. Bright and incredibly flexible. I would like to say that this film is the most versatile of all our tapes, mainly due to its brightness and ability to adhere and conform to almost any surface.

  • Colors – white, yellow, orange.
  • Widths – 1″, 2″, 4″, 6″ inches.

4. High Intensity Micro-Prismatic Type 4 reflective tape is a strong air-supported prism tape. This is one of the two airborne films we carry with us. The air support technology makes colors more vibrant, so daytime visibility is enhanced. Because the tape uses micro-prism reflections, it returns about 65% of the light to the light source. It is available in red, blue, green, yellow, orange, and white. The film is bendable but does not stretch. A 2-inch pipe will be the minimum length of this tape. Ideal for flat surfaces that require very bright, very vivid tape.

Type 4 reflective film can be used to mark bollards, loading docks, dumpsters, automatic and manual gates, truck back stops, risers, barricades, non-DOT controlled trailers, and vehicles, and more. Can be used in a variety of applications.

  • High Intensity “Prismatic” ASTM D4956 Type 4.
  • Available in widths – 1″, 2″, 4″, 6″, 8″. And available in 30′ and 150′ rolls.
  • 5-6 times brighter than regular engineer-grade tape. Exceeds all federal and state requirements for ASTM D49656 Type 4 tape.
  • Air-supported micro-prism is encapsulated in a honeycomb design to produce a “brighter” and “livelier” reflective tape.
  • Rated for 10 years of outdoor use.
  • Stronger, more rugged tape, a little thinner than a credit card, making it easier to handle and use. Use on flat surfaces.
  • Resists shredding and cracking.
  • Stronger pressure-sensitive adhesive. To apply, simply peel and stick to a clean, dry surface with no compound curve.

5. Other than SOLAS, Prismatic Type 5 reflective tape is our brightest product. (Based on the same film platform) I like to describe this film as a SOLAS color film because of its incredible brightness and beautiful colors. It is proofed film and can be used for signage. However, it is most popular in high-definition applications where thousands of feet of videotape need to be viewed. Examples of these types of applications include highways, search and rescue, marine, bollards, heavy equipment, and more. The Prismatic type 5 tape is very thin and very bright. It will not stretch but will wrap well around bollards and pipes. 2″ or more pipe is a good guideline.

  • ASTM D4956 Type 5 reflective tape.
  • A single-layer design means it won’t be layered like another reflective tape.
  • 10-year outdoor rating.
  • Visible from thousands of feet away, while visible on standard reflective tape.
  • Aggressive adhesive with a thickness of 2.5 mils. Remove release liner, apply and press down with a soft cloth. (Clean, dry, smooth surfaces are best.)
  • Used to mark EMT vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, bike helmets, motorcycle helmets, helmets, loading docks, bollards, wooden poles (on wood with staples to secure), dumpsters, gates, barricades, tractor-trailers, and more.
  • We offer white, standard yellow, school bus yellow, blue, green, orange, and red rolls.
  • Available in 1″, 2″, 3″, 4″, 6″ and 24″ wide rolls.
  • Much like our Solas tape, but in different colors.

6. Crystal Grade Type 8 Prismatic Reflective Tape is our top-of-the-line prismatic film, CRG is an “ultra high strength” prismatic sheet that meets the requirements of ASTM D 4956 Type VIII. It has the highest refractive properties at both medium and long ranges. It is about the thickness of a credit card but is more flexible (bendable), making it best suited for flat or slightly curved surfaces. (No complex curves) We sell CRG as a V-shaped panel material on fire trucks and equipment, however, the product is also ideal for highway signs, construction zone equipment, vehicles, roll-down containers, large bollards, dumpsters, construction equipment, loading dock areas, and more. Traffic signs, safety devices, vehicles, trucks, bollards, containers, loading docks, and more.

Photometry – Crystal Grade (CRG) uses a prismatic reflecting element (artificial). With this system, light is effectively reflected without diminishing by using three reflecting planes that make up the reflecting element. These planes are placed at 90 degrees to each other, thus providing an incredibly efficient light return within the element reflectance.

  • The second of our two “air-supported prisms” films. (HIM Type 4 is the other.)
  • CRG Reflective Tape is our toughest, brightest, and most vivid tape.
  • Meets or exceeds ASTM D5956 Type 8 marking form requirements.
  • Available in 6″ x 30 ft or 6″ x 150 ft rolls in yellow and red.
  • 10-year outdoor-rated film.
  • Use where extreme distance visibility is required.

7. SOLAS prismatic tape is the brightest tape available and is made in only one color, white (silver) SOLAS is a general-purpose marine-grade tape that has been approved by the Coast Guard and can be seen from heights of over 3,000 feet. It is used for search and rescue applications in which a spotlight is needed to spot people or lifeboats from a distance. This high-performance tape is silver in color, 8 mils thick, and offers flexibility, UV stability, and weather resistance. Designed for harsh outdoor environments, SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) returns more than 90 percent of the light to the source.

The KWVINYL SOLAS meets U.S. Coast Guard Specification G-Sec-393A for use as aids to maritime navigation. (Models M82-1545 FD1403 and FD1404) are officially used for marine applications such as increased visibility on the water with life jackets, life preservers, life jackets, life jackets, buoys, rain suits, channel markers, etc. Basically, anything that needs to be visible from the boat in an emergency. Other common uses on land are backpacks, jackets, cargo trailers, horse trailers, traffic control equipment, cars, motorcycles, snow poles, and more. Widths are 1, 2, and 4 inches. Can also be cad cut into letters, numbers, shapes, and more.

The sister material to the SOLAS will be our Type 5 films. I describe them as SOLAS in color.

  • Maximum reflectance 1000+ Candela.
  • The brightest magnetic tape on earth.
  • Weather-resistant material for harsh environments.
  • Visible above 3,000 feet.
  • CAD Cuttable into letters, numbers, symbols
  • 5 mil of super aggressive adhesive.
  • Available in 1404 flex, 1403 flex surface, and stitching materials.

    FREQUENTLY  ASKED  QUESTIONS

    What is reflective sheeting?

Reflective sheeting is a flexible, reflective material used primarily to increase the nighttime visibility of traffic signs, high-visibility clothing, and other items, making them safely and effectively visible to approaching drivers under headlights.

What is reflective tape made of?

Reflective tape is divided into the micro prismatic reflective tape, glass bead reflective tape, and reflective fabric tape. Microprismatic reflective tape is made of clear or colored acrylic/PC/PET/PVC (vinyl) to first create an array of prisms. This is the top layer. This layer provides reflectivity and returns light to the light source. The middle layer, also called the colored layer, will return light to the light source, but the middle layer will be a different color and will reflect back different colors. Glass bead reflective tape is made by mixing glass beads in the pigment of the mask. When illuminated, the embedded beads reflect the light back to the observer. For this reason, backward reflective films are also called beaded reflective. Glass bead type reflective film appeared earlier, but there are relatively few variations in its process. There are two main types, one is a lens-embedded reflective film, customarily referred to as engineering grade reflective film, and one is a sealed capsule type, often referred to as high-intensity grade reflective film. Reflective fabric tape is coated with glass beads on the fabric, and the reflective principle is the same as glass bead reflective tape, but there is no protective film on the surface of reflective fabric tape, so the glass beads will slokwy detach during the washing process, and the reflective effect will also decay.

What is the difference between reflective and retro reflective?

Retro reflective means to go back or backward. In the reflective tape industry, it means to return light back where it came from and nowhere else. A mirror is reflective but not retro-reflective because it sends light in different directions depending on the entrance angle.

What is diamond grade reflective sheeting?

Diamond Grade reflective sheeting (DG3) meets ASTM D4956 Type XI. This highly reflective sheeting uses 100% efficient full-cube prismatic technology that reflects, almost twice the amount of light back to its source as High Intensity Prismatic sheeting.

    What is HIP reflective sheeting?

HIP Reflective Sheeting, known as High Intensity Prismatic Reflective Sheeting, meets ASTM requirement standards D4956-09 Type III and IV and ASTM 4956-07 Type X. It is a non-metalized, micro-prismatic reflective sheeting used primarily for reflective traffic and road signs, barricades or other road construction zone devices, and traffic delineators such as cones or barrels. HIP Sheeting is highly reflective, and its durable topcoat protects signs and other traffic control devices from scratches and abrasion… HIP reflective sheeting is used for more permanent traffic signs, work zone equipment, etc., and is available in white, yellow, red, orange, blue, green, and brown. HIP sheeting is highly reflective and its durable surface coating protects signs and other traffic control devices from scratches and abrasion. It is not only highly reflective at night but also draws attention to itself during the day. HIP reflective sheeting is used for more permanent traffic signs, work zone equipment, etc., and is available in white, yellow, red, orange, blue, green, and brown. The manufacturing process for HIP reflective sheeting is also considered to be relatively “green” because it produces 97% fewer VOC emissions and uses 72% less energy to manufacture than engineering grade reflective sheeting. However, the reflectivity value alone is a better reason to use HIP. HIP reflective sheeting material has a longer life span than EG reflective film. This material is considered to be durable in the medium to long term, typically lasting about 5-7 years.

What is engineer grade reflective sheeting?

Engineer Grade Reflective Sheeting typically meets ASTM D4956 Type 1 standards and is an enclosed film or lens using glass beads or prismatic optical technology. This material is specified for use on non-critical street and road signs such as parking signs or way-finding signs.

How long does glow in the dark vinyl last?

The luminous duration of glow in the dark vinyl is determined by the phosphor in its structure, the finer the phosphor, the more uniform the luminescence, the more phosphor the longer the luminescence. Generally, the glow in the dark vinyl luminous length has 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours, according to your needs to use the corresponding photoluminescent film, the longer the luminous length, the cost will be greatly increased.

How does glow in the dark vinyl work?

The glow in the dark vinyl work principle: the reason why the glow in the dark vinyl will be luminescent is determined by the phosphor in its structure, the luminescent powder is composed of rare earth elements, the luminescence of rare earth compounds is based on their 4f electrons within the f-f group state or between the f-d group state leap. Rare earth atoms or ions with unfilled 4f shell layers have a spectrum of about 30 000 observable spectral lines, and they can emit electromagnetic radiation at various wavelengths from the ultraviolet and visible to the infrared region. Simply put, rare earth elements store energy by absorbing visible light so that their electrons reach an excited state, leap, and light energy is converted into electrical energy; when visible light disappears, the leaping higher electrons in rare earth elements revert to lower levels and release light energy, completing the conversion of electrical energy into light energy.

Is there glow in the dark vinyl?

KWVINYL 9000 is the last name in glow in the dark adhesive vinyl. The sheets of vinyl are perfectly sized for virtually any Silhouette or Cricut plotting machine, which means that anyone can easily create your own unique designs.

How do you heat press a glow in the dark HTV vinyl?

Place your smooth HTV on your shirt liner side up (vinyl down) and cover with a Teflon sheet. Press down for 10 seconds without a Teflon sheet and then 15 seconds with a Teflon sheet. Let cool for 10 seconds and peel the carrier sheet away. Apply Glow in the Dark HTV to the shirt.

What is the best heat transfer vinyl?

The best heat transfer vinyl in 2021, the glow in the holographic heat transfer vinyl, this vinyl transfer T-shirt, in the daytime, different angles to view, will have different colors, at night, after absorbing visible light, it can be self-luminous, let your clothes glittering.

What is heat transfer vinyl used for?

Heat transfer vinyl, or HTV for short, is a special vinyl polymer that can be used on certain fabrics and materials to create designs and promotional products. It comes in rolls or sheets with an adhesive backing so it can be cut, weeded, and placed on a substrate for heat application.

Why is the vinyl peeling off shirt?

There are two reasons why heat transfer vinyl peels off, heat transfer time as well as temperature. Timing – Pressing or ironing for too short a time will cause the HTV to not stick to the garment. Pressing or ironing for too long will have the same effect. HTV works with a heat activated adhesive, so too short a time and it won’t be hot enough to stick. Too much time and you can actually burn the adhesive off. Temperature – Iron on at too low a temperature and it won’t heat up enough to stick to the garment. Too high a temperature and you may burn the adhesive.
